The names of the Roman emperors Tiberius, Caligula and Claudius are well known, and so too are their stories. Hardly known at all is the story of Tiberius’ brother and Claudius’ father, the man known to historians as Drusus the Elder, who was considered in his own lifetime as an all-Roman hero, a potential successor to Augustus and the person who might restore the Republic.
